In one corner of my office, I have a bulletin board where I hang little reminders of my creative side. It helps keep me grounded, reminds me that there are many aspects to me as a person, that I have unique and creative skills, and since I first learned to crochet from my grandmother, who learned from her mother/my great-grandmother; it's a connection to a long line of women who came before me, who loved me - and others in my family - unconditionally.
In a way, it's a "power grid" that helps me recharge or recover in difficult and stressful times.
Those who don't create may not understand the power that is birthed from creativity, but once they understand it, they may never look at knitting, crochet (or other creative endeavors) the same way again!
When I travel for business - especially if air travel is involved - I always wear something I've made. It may be a cold weather scarf, wrap/shawl, ear warmer, or lighter cowl for a pop of color (instead of warmth). I always have a crocheted holder for lip balm, and I try not to ever leave home without a WIP! **
In addition to being a little piece of home and the familiar, it's a real and present reminder of my power. Adult life can be rough, with experiences that undermine our self-confidence, people who disrespect us and circumstances that bring us to our knees. Having reinforcements that help remind us of our TRUE selves is first-aid for the spirit, and an important life tool.
Since a skein of yarn and some knitting needles or a crochet hook are affordable, accessible and widely available, this isn't an expensive influencer option or an unrealistic recommendation. If you're feeling a little down, going through a hard time or just feeling blue; give yourself a little boost with some colorful yarn and the beauty of a crocheted or knitted piece/
In other words, go grab some yarn!
