It's no secret that I'm a card-carrying "bag lady"! I love to make bags, fabric being my preferred medium, BUT I have also made a few in yarn.
Since it's crochet and/or knit every day in May; AND since I have committed myself to purging my stash for new projects more regularly, I found a mesh market bag pattern that uses cotton yarn (I have an abundance of Sugar 'n Cream yarn) that I am interested in making.
My past crocheted bag projects have been smaller, as shown here (below), but I also made a larger one a couple summers ago, that my daughter promptly adopted.
In my stash, I found navy blue, red and a light ecru skeins of yarn so I am embarking on a crocheted mesh bag in patriotic colors. I am HOPING to get it done by Memorial Day,... but we'll see. If not, it will certainly be ready for July 4th.
I am terrible about remembering to take my reusable bags into the store when I shop, and regularly end up with a cart full of groceries before I remember that I left my bags in the car. I'm working on changing that (bad) habit, and think that a lovely crocheted bag might be just the thing that helps me turn the corner! I am planning to crochet a few of these to take mostly into non-grocery stores (smaller hauls), and I suspect that I may be better at remembering to grab these than I am with the scratchy, recycled plastic ones that I use for groceries.
In between this newest project, I will continue to work on finishing my Bourbon Street shawl, as well as my "Salt & Pepper" water bottle holder and find simple pleasure and even some peace in the rhythmic cadence of yarn and hook or needles.
Wishing the same to all who are knitting and/or crocheting every day in May!
