Cute, little and quick

As I finished my most recent sunglasses pouch, I was still needing some "yarn therapy" so I picked up some pink, cotton yarn and was about to make ANOTHER glasses pouch when I got inspired to free hand something. I decided to make a small holder for folded paper money or ID to tuck into a pool or beach bag. I jotted down my notes as I crocheted, and am sharing the pattern here (no guarantees - this is the 1st draft!)

** UPDATE: this pattern ended up being just a bit too small for a standard credit card, but it's perfect for money. I made this with an 'H' hook and credit/debit cards fit perfectly!

Mini Card/Money Holder

Supplies/materials

• Cotton yarn

• G hook (4.25 mm)

• Yarn needle

• Button, small

• Scissors

Notes: ch 1 at the end of each row does not count as a stitch

Front

Ch 14

Row 1: SC in back “bump” across (13 sts); ch 1 and turn.

Row 2: SC in bottom of ch 1; sc in next stitch, dc in following stitch and repeat across ending with a sc. Ch 1 and turn.

Row 3: SC in bottom of ch 1, SC across; ch 1 and turn.

Repeat rows 2 and 3 five times (11 rows); fasten off.

Ch 14

Row 1: SC in back “bump” across (13 sts); ch 1 and turn.

Row 12: SC across, ch 1 and turn (this helps to ease the flap portion over the top and makes a smoother fold-over)

Row 13: SC decrease in 1st 2 sts; SC across to last 2 sts; SC decrease (11 sts); ch 1 and turn

Row 14: SC across; ch 1 and turn

Row 15: SC decrease in 1st 2 sts; SC across to last 2 sts; SC decrease (9 sts); ch 1 and turn

Row 16: SC across; ch 1 and turn

Row 17: SC decrease in 1st 2 sts; SC across to last 2 sts; SC decrease (7 sts); ch 1 and turn

Row 18: SC across; ch 1 and turn

Row 19: SC decrease in 1st 2 sts; SC across to last 2 sts; SC decrease (5 sts); ch 1 and turn

Row 20: SC across; ch 1 and turn

Row 21: SC, SC, Ch1/Sk1, SC, SC (5 sts); ch 1 and turn

Row 22: SC across, placing a SC in the Ch1 space from previous row (5 sts)

Finishing

Place 2 more SC in last SC made and continuing on along the downward edge of the flap, place a SC at the end of each row.

When you get the to first row of straight stitching (Row 12 from original work on back piece), put 2 SC in that row to ease into the turn toward the pouch portion of the piece.

Beginning with the next row, SC front and back sections together using SC stitches.

Continue around in SC sts. When you get to a corner, place 3 SC as you crochet around.

When you get back up the other side to Row 12 again, place 2 SC at that transition row and continue with SC stitches up the decrease portion of the flap.

End at the beginning of the last SC row (5 sts), and fasten off. Weave in ends.

Add a button based on how/where you want the flap to lay and voila! You’ve made yourself a quick gift or useful item for your travels.

Variations on this can include adding a split ring to one corner, or crocheting a chain to make this wearable (would be great under a sweater or jacket to keep money/ID close and secure).
