Monday, Monday (Day 6)

Shawl stitching continues as I found my “lost” project, …which wasn’t in the back of my car OR at my parents’ home. It was actually sitting on my sewing machine table.

All’s well that ends well, right!?

I’m using a Prym crochet hook (H) for this project and I have to say, they’re on to something as it relates to ergonomics.

The combination of its shape and very light weight have created a cramp-free crocheting experience in a way that I’ve not experienced before! I’m able to almost “fly” through the stitches with this hook.

Some context here: I had a BIG coupon for Michael’s (craft store) and thought I’d use it to try one of these hooks. I didn’t have an opinion one way or another about the Prym line (I do have some opinions about other hooks, which I’ll share shortly) and absent that nice coupon, may not have ever purchased one.

That would have been a loss, as my crocheting experience with the Prym hooks (I picked up a couple more in other sizes) has been very enjoyable!

The hooks I don’t care for would include any and ALL hooks made of only resin. I don’t like their durability (which I have often found to be lacking) and I don’t care for their interaction with certain yarns (squeak and drag). I am curious that it seems so many people like them (assuming they are popular since they’re advertised all over the place), but hey - we’re all unique!

If you’re using one and you love it, keep on crocheting! If not, try out a new brand and you may find that, like me, you have a new favorite hook!

I may very well be in the minority about the resin hooks, but I’m also someone who prefers straight needles (or DPN’s) to circular ones any day of the week, so maybe I’m just a cranky, ”seasoned” fiber artist.

Regardless of what kind of hook or needles you choose and use, I hope your yarn journey this month is filled with color, softness and joy!

Keep on stitching, every day in May!
