Recap of Day 2

Writer's picture: Rebecca (a yarn enthusiast)Rebecca (a yarn enthusiast)

I'll be honest - I almost dropped the ball,... and it was only Day 2! I was SO TIRED yesterday, and headed upstairs to bed when I realized that I had not knitted or crocheted at all that day. I put my jammies on, and went back downstairs to honor this commitment.

My cat wasn't sure what to think about that, but he rolled with it.

I decided to work some more rows in a hat I had started last Fall in Lion Brand Wool Ease/Fair Isle, in the color Thistle Orchid.

I prefer DPNs when knitting in the round as opposed to circular needles, where feasible (it's not always feasible), and like my other current knitting project (Highland Souffle wool wrap), the knitting needles are Takumi, and these are size 10.

As I completed a few rows, I thought about the many benefits of having a simple project at the ready. Whether we are stressed and need the solace of yarn and stitches without having to think too hard about what we're doing OR we are honoring a commitment to knit or crochet every day; quick pick-up projects are a great resource.

In terms of specific research, I don't have any studies to quote here, but from years of reading about how our brains respond to various activities, I am certain that the diversity of knitting in different styles (e.g. straight needles vs. circular vs. DPNs) has a positive impact on our neurological health.

Similarly, taking on a crochet project with a new (to us) stitch pattern OR finished product is neuroprotective (good for our brain health)!

So it's onward into Day 3 of Knit and/or Crochet Every Day in May!

Looking at the day ahead of me, I think I'll throw a bag containing a simple project into my car.

Today may be one of those days when the stitches are made at successive stoplights (don't judge - you know you've thought about it when stuck in traffic!!).

Safety first, of course!

Before I sign off and head back into my rather full day, I wanted to share a free knitted hat pattern, written for those who may choose DPNs for knitting in the round. This pattern comes from the good folks at Knitting with Chopsticks (thanks for the free pattern!).

Don't forget to GO GRAB SOME YARN - and happy continued stitching, every day in May!
