Satisfaction

There’s something satisfying about finishing a project. It’s like an affirmation that we have our act together and on some weeks, I need that more than I care to admit!!

I’ve referenced the many benefits of knitting and crocheting in previous blog posts, but tonight I want to highlight the positive benefits to our state of mind when we finish a project.

I was organizing my yarn stash (& cleaning out some skeins to donate to the local Center for Creative Reuse) and I came across a light aqua skein of Lionbrand Yarn - Coboo. It’s a soft yarn, made of cotton and bamboo (51%/49%) and a yarn weight of 3. Coboo is similar to Lionbrand’s Truboo in texture and the way it works up but Truboo is 100% bamboo fiber.

I followed my own pattern to make this glasses pouch (pattern featured on the Home page of the blog right now) and it only took me a couple hours from start to finish.

I use these to keep eyeglasses dust free (I have multiple pairs) and for sunglasses. They also make great gifts and can be customized easily. I like to add beads to the ties or use a colorful cord lock as I did in the one featured in this blog post.

At the end of the day, this was a little island of peace and relaxation. It inspired joy as I worked with the pleasing texture and color of the yarn, and I felt a sense of satisfaction in completing the project and admiring the color-coordinating beads on the ties.

In terms of self-care, it's important to remember that we don't need to "GO BIG OR GO HOME". We can achieve peace, well-being, and a positive sense of self with small projects, leftover yarn and a well-worn pattern. The KEY is for us to remember that it is that simple. As fiber artists, we have the tools and supplies in our possession today that can transform an otherwise dismal day into a sunnier one.

Here's to yarn, hooks and needles, free and paid patterns, and the extended community of fiber artists that supports each other through this thing called life!
