The 2023 Steel Valley Yarn Crawl commenced today and as is my plan each year, I head out to the yarn shop farthest from my home to kick it off. My reasons for this are to ensure that if my week gets crazy, I can still hit the closer shops and complete the crawl.
Today we started at Kathy's Kreations in Ligonier, Pennsylvania. Ligonier is home to Fort Ligonier (historic site) and a lovely downtown area that is worthy of a day spent wandering in and out of its shops and sampling the many food options available.
We were delighted to visit Kathy's shop and meet a new yarn friend, River Rat Yarns who specializes in DYEING custom colors on yarn. I was happy to purchase 2 beautiful skeins from her with the name "Punch in the Pool on a Sunny Day". The colors are as happy and bright as you can imagine from the name!
We shopped Kathy's ample inventory, wanted to bring home MANY more than was feasible, and met some of the regulars who made us feel most welcome! We were invited to join them on Fridays for their knitting and crochet group where, according to one of the ladies, they "solve the world's problems" (sounds like a GREAT plan to me!).
In addition to the delightful selection of yarns available at Kathy's Kreations, her shop offers a warm and inviting place to hone crochet or knitting skills, make new friends, or meet up with old ones - all while exploring our creative sides in yarn. It's a local treasure.
You can follow Kathy on Instagram @KathyKnitz and River Rat Yarns can be found there @RiverRatArts - be sure to check them both out!
