Steel Valley Yarn Crawl - the rest of the trip

I read with some interest the posts online around the final weekend of the Steel Valley Yarn Crawl, this morning. I actually finished my crawling in 3 days this year - a personal record! Today I want to highlight the last 2 shops I visited and close out my summary of this year's crawl.

I like to say that I "saved the best for last", because I start AND end my crawl each year with my "home" shop/LYS: Kid Ewe Knot, in Bridgeville. While there is always value in seeing new stores, meeting new people and traveling to new locations; there's no place like home, and I suggest - no place like our home yarn shops!

On my last day of crawling, I first went North to hit Moon & Yarn Craft Shop. I like to think of this new shop (opened this year!) as my 2nd "home shop" because it is in the neighborhood where my son lives. This shop is so darn cute, and has a fresh, bubbly vibe! I found more yarn to add to my crawl stash and was happy to see a FULL HOUSE in there when I stopped. That's always a good feeling for a business owner and I'm pleased to have been in this shop twice since it opened and had a lot of fellow shoppers there at the same time. Of note, weavers can find a lot of support here, as well as crocheters and knitters.

Finally, it was time to head South and cap off another Yarn Crawl at Kid Ewe Knot! As often happens during the crawls, I arrived at my next destination at the same time as 3 or 4 other carloads arrived. I suspect that most yarn stores love these "rushes" (I know I would if I owned a yarn shop). It was great to finish off my yarn crawling and I added several more potential projects from the rich selection of yarns at Kid Ewe Knot.

I want to point out here that Heather at Kid Ewe Knot is not only a yarn proprietor, and fiber arts teacher; she has a wealth of knowledge about the industry, including the movement toward sustainability in yarn. If this is something you are interested in, be sure you stop by Kid Ewe Knot some time and chat with her. Another wonderful feature of Kid Ewe Knot is their participation in (and I think she's doing more work than the word "participation" suggests!) in the Pittsburgh Satellite Reef project. You can learn more about that here.

Kid Ewe Knot is so much more than a yarn shop, and I am lucky and grateful to have it as my closest, and therefore my "HOME" local yarn shop!

p.s. I have it on good authority that Heather is a terrific TEACHER,... so if you're new to knitting and/or crocheting and want to learn or update your skills - reach out!!

I close out my own Yarn Crawl experience this year happy with my yarn acquisitions, pleased that I have completed yet another item from my previous yarn stash, and looking forward to more adventures in yarn - including contributing to the Pittsburgh Satellite Reef project. See below for a photo from another Reef Project (you're going to want to join in once you see it!)

Happy crocheting & knitting!
